Technology killed the Lithographic star
I had a friend around for Dinner the other night and being a drummer in a band he soon brought the conversation around to music. We shared our enthusiasm for the ipod but couldn't help reminiscing on the good old days when you could flick through and admire your new artwork be it CD or Vinyl whilst listening to your latest purchase. From the zip on The Rolling's Stones 'Sticky Fingers' LP to the heat sensitive CD box set from Massive Attack the playful art that I like to call 'The band in the hand' is clearly dying. The conclusion to this whine however was that this was simply a sign of us getting old. Do the new generation even care for this lost concept? well no not really. The youth of today apparently see this as an old un-environmentally friendly approach to a basic and limited delivery of information that serves as nothing more than waste full clutter of your personal living space. Yeh I see their point . . . I guess grumble grumble and it is true to say that you are only one click away from a mountain of information and inspiration on your favorite band online , a second click away from sharing your thoughts with thousands of other like minded individuals and a third click away from buying into the lifestyle that you, most certainly as a youngster could so passionately believe in. Yep times have certainly changed . . . 'so how many albums do you say you had on you ipod again?' I asked my friend 'oh about 300' he said whilst revealing it from his back pocket and I tried to imagine that in old terms and the concept of the CD was actually beginning to sound rather daft after all.
